"SUSTAINABILITY", an art of finding peace?

There are a few debatable topics similar to "Is Technology, a boon or bane?", "Is Technology giving a better solution for the future?" etc, I've come across lately. I thought to myself for sometime and then I realised how ignorant those topics were. And how people were fighting for a dead cause.

It all started when dictionaries and Google helped me to understand the defenition of technology. As I put it, "Technology is the development in a certain field so as to maintain and sustain that particular field for the upcoming future." If that is the defenition for technology, then it has been prevailing since the birth of man kind. It is not only the electronic and the electrical appliances we see today, but also finding the techniques for agriculture and the discovery of fire during the first generation of human life.

Are we really sustaining our natural resources in the name of development? I don't think so. We are all induced into a mirage of shortcuts. People think of technology as the way of shortcuts as in doing things in a short period of time and without much effort. But in reality, there is no shortcut for any basic activity in life. The techniques of doing an activity must be in a way that, it sustains the resources for the future generations to come. That is development. That is technology.

We are living in a generation where, most of our memories are pictures and our conversations are texts. These consume data. And data consumes space in servers. And servers, in the name of cloud computing occupies acres of lands. These are called server farms and they are in the size of agricultural fields. Now, are we sustaining or destroying our natural resources? The latter will always be the answer.

Enough of me bashing about the harmful things we've done in the name of technology. Even as I share this article, it gets stored in a server which occupies space completely injustifying half of my article. Apart from the majority of things we are witnessing now, technology has paved the way for every single understanding between us and everything. We have survived for millions of years with the help of technology. We should survive for more generations with the help of rightful technology.

One of the major ambitions of a human being is attaining peace and happiness. Everyone would dream about that for once in their lifetime. We all overcome that ambition in some part of our lives, trying to concentrate on our jobs and in the event of making money. With the crisis in every aspect going on around the world, it seems impossible to survive and to attain eternal peace. We all must remember one thing/ one duty we are all assigned for. Whatever field we may be an expert in, we must strive towards the SUSTAINABILITY of that particular field." Music makes us keep going. It is a form of sustainability. Science makes us understand. It is a form of sustainability. Sports sometimes unites people. It is form of sustainability. Likewise, whatever maybe your field of interest, make sure not to consume the majority of our natural resources and to develop that particular field in a sustainable manner.

With that being said, you can continue your journey towards peace, knowing that you've done good for the future generations to come. And they can cherish the good deeds that we do. This is what something our forefathers have been doing for a long time.

I complete this article by some wise words from Sir David Attenborough,

"Our planet is still full of wonders.

We can now cherish them or destroy them.

  IT LIES WITHIN OUR HANDS."
